Milad Azarm (میلاد آذرم) is a Ph.D. candidate in Interdisciplinary Arts at Ohio University, where he also teaches courses on theater history, drama, and the arts. With a background in theater and performance studies from Tarbiat Modares University in Iran, Milad’s research explores postdramatic theater, dramaturgy, and the intersections of philosophy and performance in contemporary contexts.
His scholarly work has been published in leading journals such as New Theatre Quarterly, Iranian Studies, and TDR. He is the recipient of several awards, including the I Hollis Parry/Ann Parry Billman Fine Arts Graduate Award and the Seigfred Outstanding Teacher Award.
Beyond academia, Milad is an active theater and movie practitioner, having directed, performed in, and produced a wide range of theatrical works and movies across Iran and the United States. His practice bridges traditional and contemporary forms, with a focus on creating cross-cultural dialogue through performance. He has also contributed to the field as a translator, notably bringing Paul Rae’s Theatre and Human Rights into Farsi.
Milad’s work has been presented at major conferences, including the Association for Theatre in Higher Education (ATHE) and the Ta'ziyeh: Rethinking a Devotional Tradition symposium at UC San Diego. He is dedicated to fostering global conversations in theater and performance studies, while also mentoring the next generation of scholars and artists.
